Robust 5-volt EMC/EMI performance provides peace of mind for developers designing in ‘noisy' environments with the use of Flexis™ AC 8-bit and 32-bit Microcontroller family

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) are critical concerns for developers designing in “noisy” environments that contain numerous electrical components in close proximity. Freescale's Flexis™ AC family features 8-bit devices (MC9S08AC128/96/60/48/32) and 32-bit V1 ColdFire® MCUs (MCF51AC256/128) designed to provide exceptional EMC/EMI performance and an array of on-chip peripherals to help reduce component count, system complexity and overall system cost.

The Flexis AC family is an optimal choice for a single-chip motor control and human-machine interface (HMI) solution in white goods applications, such as washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers and other major appliances. The product family is also scalable and flexible enough to meet the needs of a wide range of general industrial applications, from factory automation to building control to HVAC systems. To help enable basic to advanced motor control, the Flexis AC devices feature three time/pulse-width modulators (TPM) on the 8-bit S08AC128/96 devices and an advanced 16-bit FlexTimer module on the 32-bit MCF51AC256/128 ColdFire MCUs designed to simplify the control of complex solutions. To enhance system integrity, security and reliability, the Flexis AC MCUs integrate a wide range of hardware and software system protection features.

Development support

Freescale offers a comprehensive support and training ecosystem of development tools, reference designs, application notes, software examples and webcasts. To help developers get their boards up and running quickly and easily, Freescale offers the DEMOACKIT, a flexible and cost-effective evaluation system for the Flexis AC family. The DEMOACKIT contains the 8- and 32-bit Flexis AC daughter cards and includes a built-in USB BDM, LEDs, a serial port, an acceleration sensor and an I/O header.

Available is also the DEMOACEX expansion board, which plugs into the DEMOACKIT and allows developers to take advantage of the additional performance and integration features, such as CAN, offered by the 32-bit solution.

A complimentary version of the CodeWarrior® Development Studio for Microcontrollers v6.1is also available.

More about Flexis™

The Flexis™ series is the connection point of S08 and ColdFire V1 microcontrollers on the Freescale Controller Continuum. The Controller Continuum outlines a roadmap that provides pin-for-pin compatible 8-bit and 32-bit MCUs that share a common set of peripherals and development tools.
By using the new Flexis series of microcontrollers, developers can now offer multiple configurations and performance levels of their products with a single hardware and board design. Furthermore, software reinvestment and design cycle time is drastically reduced with peripheral and tool compatibility.
