EPCOS Innovation Powers Capacitance for Filters
Capacitors up to 45µF filter out high-frequency current harmonics more efficiently.
There is an increasing need to filter out high-frequency current harmonics that come from the switching of equipment, IGBT, thyristors, and other power semiconductors.
The new B3292*E/F version of X2 capacitors has been designed and developed by EPCOS to offer the most efficient solution for this need.
The main demand for such filtering capabilities currently comes from the power conversion area (frequency converters, inverters, regulators, SMPS, and drives) and from the producers
of electronic filters. In general there is also a need for this capability in any power equipment where a filter circuit is necessary to attenuate a parasitic harmonic.
The B3292*E/F version is intended to be used for across-the-line applications (CX), typically between line and neutral at voltages of up to 305 VAC, and also for three-phase applications in star connection.
Filter designers and producers used to place several capacitors in parallel to reach the desired capacitance value. Now they have the possibility of using a single 45µF capacitor to create the capacitance value required for filters.
The performance of these capacitors has been evaluated in tests for electrical, endurance, and high voltage safety. And additional tests according to IEC60384-14, UL1283, and CSA22.2 No 8. have been conducted by internationally recognized institutions to obtain the X2 classification and filter approvals that confirm the robustness of design and the reliability of this new series.
The EPCOS capacitors are approved according to UL and ENEC for 305 VAC. This new E/F version is an expansion and improvement of EPCOS’s existing B3292x series.
