International Rectifier has introduced the SupIRBuck™ family of integrated DC/DC buck regulators. The new voltage regulators shrink the silicon footprint by 70 percent compared to discrete solutions and simplify embedded power designs.
Featuring very small dimensions, these wide input, single output synchronous buck voltage regulators are particularly well suited for use in high density, high performance data center and consumer applications.
5 X 6 mm QFN Package
The IR38xx SupIRBuck™ family point-ofload (POL) voltage regulators integrate IR’s benchmark HEXFET® trench technology MOSFETs and a high performance synchronous buck control IC in a compact 5 x 6 mm Power QFN package, shrinking the silicon footprint by 70 percent compared to discrete solutions, and offering between 8 to 10 percent higher full-load efficiency than competing monolithic ICs. Because the SupIRBuck™ family has a unique, scalable common footprint, designers can simply ‘cut and paste’ their design to significantly reduce risk and enable faster-time-to market.
Up to 12 A of Output Load Current
Designed for 4, 7 or 12 A of output load current at 600 kHz switching frequency, the IR38xx operates from a wide input voltage range of 2.5 to 21 V, and provides an output voltage of between 12 to 0.6 V. Common features include pre-bias start up, fixed 600 kHz switching frequency, hiccup current limit, thermal shut-down and precise output voltage regulation. Optional features include tracking, programmable power good, and 300 kHz switching frequency (for additional 2 A of output current capability).
The SupIRBuck™ family’s thermally enhanced
package with slim 0.9 mm profile allows mounting on the back side of the motherboard, making the voltage regulators ideally suited for space constrained, high-density server applications.
With the addition of the SupIR-Buck™ POL family to International Rectifier´s industry-leading
XPhase® and Direct-FET® multiphase architecture, designers can benefit from a highly efficient, complete power solution for the data center including enterprise servers.
