Low Insertion Loss and Very Small Size
With the AXICOM HF3 relay, Tyco Electronics
offers one of the smallest and highest performance high-frequency relays on the market. This series of relays has now been expanded with the introduction of the HF3S and HF6 devices.
The HF3S is suitable for particularly high
RF power levels up to 150 W, while the HF6 can handle frequencies up to 6 GHz.
Interference-free Signal Transmission
Compared with alternative solutions, such as FETs or pin diodes, electromechanical high-frequency relays offer better high-frequency characteristics with higher isolation and lower insertion loss. They are capable of transmitting DC, AC and high-frequency signals while maintaining steady
characteristics over the entire temperature
range of –55 °C to +85 °C.
Utilizing a fully metallic contact set-up during closed condition, those relays feature an unrivalled low insertion loss and no signal
distortion from non-linearities in the signal path. This allows an interference-free transmission of high-frequency and high-power
signals.
HF3 Relay
The HF3 relay is one of the smallest, highest
performance and lowest cost high-frequency
relays currently available on the market. It is offered with impedance values of 50 or 75 Ù and coil voltages from 3 to 24 V.
HF3S Relay
The HF3S relay is a higher performance version
of the HF3. With the HF3S, designers benefit from high-frequency transmission capabilities up to 150 W and switching capabilities up to 50 W. The HF3S is suitable for frequencies up to 3 GHz. In addition to the improved load characteristics, the high-frequency behaviour has been further optimized to achieve an isolation of 80 dB at
1 GHz and less than 0.08 dB insertion loss at
1 GHz.
HF6 Relay
Featuring the same size of only 15 x 7.6 x 10.6 mm, the HF6 relay is specified for frequencies from DC to 6 GHz. Key parameters include an isolation of 40 dB at 5 GHz and 0.2 dB insertion loss at 5 GHz.
One Pin/Padlayout – Scalable Product
HF3, HF3S and HF6 feature identical pin layouts. This enables designers tomeet increasing requirements without revising the existing printed circuit board. |
Advantages of the HF Relay Family
Based on an innovative design, the HF3, HF3S and HF6 high-frequency relays have extremely small overall dimensions. All relays of the HF family are suitable for SMD soldering processes and can therefore be integrated into high-frequency switching circuits in an easy and economical way. The coplanar design used allows for optimum signal coupling from the PCB to the relay and back again to the board. Owing to the low insertion loss, the self-heating of the switching element is very low even under high power conditions.
The good dielectric values ensure reliable operation in severe environments and under climatic influences. The relays of the HF family are perfectly suited for both infrequent operation and continuous switching, e.g. in test equipment. All AXICOM high-frequency relays fully meet the RoHS requirements.
